GGG is a non-profit making organization aiming to promote the establishment of comprehensive schools throughout Germany.

The organization was founded in 1969 and today it numbers about 4200 members. It is solely financed by donations and members' contributions.

Our goals:

GGG aims to transform Germany's traditionally segregative school system by replacing it with a democratic, egalitarian, integrative system that discriminates neither against foreign nationals nor against handicapped children.

We favor mixed ability groups and affirmative measures to promote pupils from socially disadvantaged backgrounds.

We are seeking support to establish more comprehensive schools in Germany due to the fact that only between 7% and 30% of all German pupils have access to a comprehensive school. (The reason for this is that some state legislatures in federally organized Germany are reluctant to provide comprehensive schools for the students wishing to attend one.)

Fact is that, with a total population of more than 80 million inhabitants, Germany only numbers approximately 1000 comprehensive schools!

Our chief purpose is, therefore, to realize our pedagogic target, namely, to overcome the traditional German school system of segregation from the age of 10 years. It must be understood that segregation in Germany is not based on either colour or creed but largely on achievement levels reached during primary education i.e. the first four years of school (from 6 to 10 years). This segregation the basis of which is performance is persisting, thereby continuing to reproduce Germany's traditional class and income distinctions.

To achieve the above mentioned goals, we in our organization publish books and brochures on current trends in pedagogy; we also lobby state parliaments and organize workshops and seminars for teachers, parents and students. These seminars aim to spread our own conviction that a democratic society needs a democratic, integrative, non-segregative school system to secure the working of a democratic society.
