All young people can attend vocational school after completing the lower secondary level (Sekundarstufe I). In so far as no other upper secondary level school is chosen the vocational school must be attended (vocational school attendance requirement). Our Berufskolleg offers a variety of educational courses in the following areas:

Die Berufsschule (Vocational School)

The vocational school provides through the specialised classes of the dual system the basic and specialized vocational training required for a particular occupation in industry and commerce together with a general education. Teaching covers vocation - oriented subjects like economics or information technology and general subjects like German, politics, religious studies, physical education and foreign languages.

Teaching is given on a part-time basis (our students attend classes on two days of the week) or by concentrating teaching into three related teaching phases on a full-time basis (teaching en bloc).

The vocational training ends with a examination set by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce. This central exam is the same for all students coming from one federal state.

Die Berufsfachschule für Wirtschaft (Vocational School: Basic training as preparation for vocational training)

This two-year full-time vocational school leads to the technical secondary entrance qualification. It provides a broadened general education and a basic vocational training in commerce and administration.

Pupils attending these classes have completed full-time compulsory education and have gained the Hauptschule Leaving Certificate.

Die Höhere Handelsschule (Commercial High School)

The commercial high school is a vocational full-time school which provides qualified vocational knowledge in an occupational area. Pupils attend this type of school for two years. If they pass the examination they fulfil the school conditions for gaining the technical college entrance qualification. The technical college entrance qualification is awarded if a one-year practical training or a vocational training of at least two years has been completed. It entitles the holder to study at a Fachhochschule (technical college) or Gesamthochschule (integrated university).

Die Fachoberschule für Wirtschaft (Technical Secondary School)

The technical secondary school with the main area commerce provides a broadened general education and a more in-depth vocational training, qualifiying students to study at a technical college or integrated university.

Courses are offered on a full-time or part-time basis. The full-time training course lasts one year, the part-time course two years. Pupils wishing to enter on a full-time basis must have the technical secondary school entrance qualification and have completed a vocational training of at least two years corresponding to our school type commerce and administration. Those who fulfil the above mentioned requirements can also enter on a part-time basis. In addition pupils who have the technical secondary school entrance qualification and are in a trainee relationship for an occupation appropriate to our school can also be admitted on a part-time basis. Thus it is possible for the trainees to gain the technical college entrance qualification during the period of their vocational training.

Wirtschaftsfachschule (upper secondary school level)

This type of school can be attended by adults with vocational experience. Courses are offered on a part-time basis on Saturdays plus two evenings during the week. Within three years the technical college entrance qualification can be acquired while employment is continued. Students can also obtain a vocational qualification as "state-examined industrial manager".

Students wishing to enter this type of school require the technical college entrance qualification.
